Janet Wooten is thrilled to be joining the Savannah Children’s Choir this season as the conductor for the Premier and Prep choirs. Currently in her 18th year as a music educator, Janet recently conducted the Prep Choir on its tour of Asheville, NC and the Premier Choir on its tour of Ireland.
After spending 13 years teaching Elementary and Middle school music in the Savannah-Chatham School system, Janet currently teaches general and choral music at Hesse K-8 School. Beyond her public school teaching, Janet also maintains a private voice studio, teaching singers of all ages, and has served as a guest conductor for the Georgia District One Elementary Honor Choir. Prior to settling in Savannah, Janet taught music at the high school and collegiate levels.
Janet studied voice with Dr. Brian Horne and Ms. Joan Wall, and has performed with the Bedford (Texas) Opera Company. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Shorter University in Rome, Georgia and her Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.
Janet’s musical influences include classical, pop, opera, and gospel. Her professional affiliations include National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Janet and her husband Jody are blessed to have three children – James, Jaci, and Joseph.
