How to Audition:
The primary audition for the Savannah Children's Choir is attendance at the annual Summer Choral Camp.
This intensive two-week choral camp equips musically-interested children with musical skills, and allows the directors of the Savannah Children's Choir an opportunity to fully evaluate a young singer.
Summer Choral Camp takes place the last two weeks of July.
Registration materials are available on our Home Page from March until June.

What are the results of participating in the SCC?
"My child has come out of her shell by becoming a member of the Savannah Children's Choir. I can't believe her new confidence."
"This is the one organization where my child gets to interact with a variety of children from throughout the community."
"If you ask my child what the greatest thing about the SCC is, the answer will be travel! My child has been to England and Chicago with the SCC."
"The "B" average requirement has stirred my child to excel. Because he's having such a great time in choir, he's been motivated to increase his studying in order to improve his grades so he can stay in good standing."

What does membership in the SCC involve? |
|

Founded in 2006, the Savannah Children's Choir has a mission of uniting Savannah's children through the power of song.
The SCC is made up of two choirs,
the Senior Choir and the Preparatory Choir. The Preparatory Choir is just that –
it prepares members by providing comprehensive musical education and singing
and performance skills. The Senior Choir
is our more advanced choir, and members are given a more challenging and
rigorous musical experience.
Each year in Summer Choral Camp,
directors thoroughly evaluate each child for placement in one of the two
choirs. Advancement to the Senior Choir does
not automatically occur at a given age or grade, but when directors judge the
child is musically prepared, has a more mature sound, and has a demonstrated
commitment to the choir program.
If your child is offered a seat in the choir at the end of Summer Choral Camp, you'll have a set time to decide whether or not to accept that seat.
Each choir member pays tuition and is responsible for costuming and travel costs. Financial aid and partial grants are available to families who need help offsetting some of the costs of participation.
Once you've accepted the seat on behalf of your child, you'll attend a mandatory Parent's Meeting (usually in the form of a fun cocktail party) to meet the other parents and learn more about the year ahead.
Your choir member will then attend a retreat to get to know other choir members, review basic music skills, and work on creating the sound of the new choir.
Senior Choir rehearsals begin in mid-August, and rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Preparatory Choir rehearsals begin in September, and rehearsals are held Mondays from 4:15-5:15 p.m.
While a member of the SCC, all students are expected to maintain a "B" or better average in each and every subject. Community volunteers are available to tutor any child who needs additional help in their schoolwork.
Both choirs perform throughout the year, and the SCC produces two major concerts a year, the Christmas Concert in December, and a Spring Concert. Attendance at all performances is mandatory, and our schedule may be found on our home page by clicking the Google Calendar link.
In addition to a full rehearsal and performance season for the auditioned choir, the choir also hosts an annual Artist-in-Residence program, inspiring children to careers in the arts. Held each spring, choir members have an opportunity to rehearse and perform on stage with an up-and-coming young artist. While here, the artist also visits local school music programs.
Finally, the SCC is a traveling choir. By accepting your seat, a family also accepts the fact that their child will travel - either regionally with the Preparatory Choir, or nationally or internationally with the Senior Choir. Parents are expected to fund travel, but there are many fundraising opportunities throughout the year, plus some partial grants, to help families offset the cost of travel.
